New Thing is your love in action, inside the former Soviet Union
Curious about where NewThing.net came from?
A report from Doug Brendel to all who support or follow New Thing in Belarus...
All these years...
She’s known your love
It began about a decade ago....
Our “Response of the Heart” team saw a need at a boarding school in Osipovichi, east of Minsk.
80+ children with mental and physical disabilities live here.
Since then, it’s become our annual New Thing Thanksgiving tradition:
A year’s worth of medicine-cabinet meds and supplies — Tylenol, Band-Aids, etc. — for the children and workers at Osipovichi.
When I visited years ago, I met a little girl named Paulina.
One year, the children put on a talent show!
Paulina turned out to be a vocalist — and an enthusiastic audience member!
Our photographer Oleg visited last week, and sent us the photos.
I was delighted to find Paulina in one of her classes. She’s becoming a lovely young woman.
She’ll be a 10th-grader in the coming school year!
For half her life or more, she has known the love of friends from afar.
A headache, a scraped knee — whatever ordinary everyday problem comes her way...
No problem. Thanks to friends like you.
We’re with these kids, and the workers devoting their lives to their care, for the long haul.
Thanks for journeying with New Thing!
More adventures to come!
Much love,
Doug Brendel
